A plastic kit from the Japanese brand Bandai set in the Gundam world. Like the whole of this brand's output it is built snap-fit style: the parts are nipped off the sprues and joined by snapping together, and no glue is needed for it. The plastic is already colored right through, so the model is color-separated as soon as it is assembled. The words Command Package in the name refer to a variant completed with further equipment; check exactly what is in the box on the packaging.
The name Zhao Yun belongs to a Chinese general of the Three Kingdoms period. Bandai joins robots from the Gundam world with historical and legendary figures and gives them the matching armor and attributes. The result is models with a richly divided surface, decorative features and contrasting areas of color: a rewarding subject precisely for anyone who wants to learn to work with detail.
What does the most on a model like this is picking out the engraved lines. A thin paneliner or a dilute wash runs into the grooves by capillary action, outlines the panels and raises the modeling even on parts you have left in their original color. Wipe off the excess with a cotton bud moistened with a suitable thinner before it dries, and work over small areas at a time. Nip the remains of the gates off well clear of the part first, and only then level and lightly sand them. Anyone who wants to go all out sprays the model: degreasing, a thin primer, light coats of paint and finally a unifying varnish. A matte varnish knocks the plastic sheen down, and semi-gloss suits armor and metallic surfaces.
The model is built by snapping the parts together; glue is not needed for assembly. Paints, varnishes and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
