Hexagonal imitations of rivets and bolts from the Japanese brand Top Studio, 0.7 mm in diameter and in a silver finish. These are aftermarket detail parts, not a model kit. They are fitted to a model under construction wherever a molded plastic detail should be replaced by a genuinely raised bolt head. The number in the name is the head diameter, not the scale of the model.
The silver finish imitates ordinary steel or aluminum hardware, that is, what is most often visible on a real car. A brass, golden shade is better suited where you want to set the joints apart visually or suggest a different material. Both can be combined deliberately on one model, for example to distinguish the engine and bodywork fasteners, but it pays to have a system in it rather than chance.
Seven tenths of a millimeter is the all-round middle of a range that runs from 0.5 to 1.0 mm. In the silver finish it works well on body panels, on the quick-release fasteners of the hood, on the covers and caps of the engine bay and on brake discs and calipers, where the steel look fits best. At the same time it stays fine enough not to coarsen the shape of the part.
Silver rivets are often left unpainted, but that leaves them sensitive to fingerprints and to abrasion during further work. Fit them as late as possible, ideally after painting and weathering, and then fix the surface with a thin coat of semi-matte varnish. Pre-drill the hole with a micro drill bit slightly under the rivet diameter, place the part with tweezers and secure it with a tiny drop of super glue applied with a wire.
