Zebranomodel offers the Hotchkiss light tank in several production shapes, and this set represents the middle stage of H35 production. For a collector that makes practical sense: in 1:100 scale a whole development line of one type can be built without demanding space, and the differences can be shown side by side. What exactly the mid form covers in this set is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The H35 was a French light tank produced in the second half of the 1930s. Both hull and turret were made as cast parts joined with bolts, and the armament consisted of a short 37 mm gun with a machine gun. The crew numbered two and the commander in the turret had to manage observation, aiming and loading at the same time. The type went through a series of small changes during production — details of the rear, the exhaust system and the running gear were altered — and that is exactly why early, mid and late shapes are distinguished today.
With small models it pays to turn the usual procedure around: first decide on the final color scheme and only then plan what to glue and what to leave separate. The turret, and separate fenders if there are any, are easier to paint apart. Clean the parts with a scalpel with a new blade and take the flash off with a pull, not with pressure. For laying down the base shade an airbrush with well thinned paint is the surest way; if you brush it, go for two or three very thin coats and let each dry properly. Keep the weathering restrained — on a model the size of a thumb a heavy wash or pronounced rust is distracting. It is enough to suggest dust on the running gear and to accent the edges lightly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
