The kit captures the German fully tracked tractor RSO in the 03 version, in 1:100 scale from the Zebranomodel range. Another version of the same tractor exists as well, so watch the number in the name. The number of parts, the material and the contents of the package are stated on the box of the kit.
The RSO was a fully tracked tractor developed for operating in conditions where wheeled vehicles got stuck — in mud, in deep snow and on broken roads. The design counted on simplicity and cheap production: a short tracked chassis, a high-set cab and an open cargo bed. The version designated 03 had, against the first variant, a simplified cab of pressed sheet and an air-cooled diesel engine, which lowered the demands of operating in frost. The vehicle was used to tow light guns and for supply, and its road speed was low — mobility over ground took priority over road behavior.
A utility vehicle is rewarding precisely because it takes more than a tidy tank. Assemble the suspension and the tracks first and paint them before you fit the bed over them — once it is finished you will not reach them again. Join the cab and the bed only after the base coat. You can add a load yourself: boxes, drums, a tarpaulin from crumpled foil or a coiled rope from wire all give the model scale and story in 1:100. Deal with the painting in thin coats and concentrate on a muddy underside: a darker tone in the wheel arches, dust and dry earth in the shade of the setting you want to suggest. The wood of the bed stands out if you pass a very thin dark wash along the grain after the base color.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
