A kit of a Japanese gun vehicle on the chassis of the Type 97 medium tank in 1:100 scale from Zebranomodel. The distinguishing detail of this item is the armament: a short 120 mm barrel, that is a support weapon with a short range rather than an anti-tank gun. At a small scale it makes a rewarding addition to the ordinary tank versions of the Chi-Ha.
The chassis of the Type 97 medium tank served the Japanese side as the basis for a whole family of derived vehicles. Alongside the tank versions, carriers were also built for artillery weapons of larger caliber with a short barrel, intended for direct fire support. Against an ordinary tank such vehicles had a greater effect from a single round against fortifications and buildings, but a shorter effective range, a smaller ammunition supply and a more limited ability to fight armored targets. They were deployed in small numbers in the later period of the war.
A barrel of larger caliber is a conspicuous element in 1:100 scale, so give it attention when cleaning up: sand the parting line down with fine paper, and the muzzle can be carefully suggested with a fine drill or a dark shade. Take the parts off with a sharp knife and work with tweezers. Choose the glue to suit the material of the parts: thin cement for plastic, cyanoacrylate for resin. Paint over a thin primer, apply the base in thin coats and keep the patina restrained, so that the small shapes stay legible. Apply dust and mud only to the running gear and the lower areas.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
