An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:12 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The name states the subject plainly: the Kawasaki 500-SS Mach III in the H1A form of 1971. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Kawasaki 500-SS Mach III appeared at the end of the 1960s and quickly earned a reputation as one of the sharpest production motorcycles of its day. It was powered by an air-cooled two-stroke three-cylinder engine of half a liter with three separate exhausts, which is a striking and easily recognized feature on the model. The combination of high output with a light frame produced a machine famous for its acceleration that at the same time asked for an experienced rider. The H1A form of 1971 is one of the early versions of the line and is still a sought-after collector's motorcycle.
Work outwards from the frame and the engine. The finned three-cylinder block shows well if you follow the base coat with a fine wash and a dry brush. The three exhausts are the visual focus of the machine: polished metal is best imitated with a metallic finish laid over a smooth gloss black base, with the transitions and the heat discoloration then suggested gently with an airbrush. Spray the tank and the side covers over a filler primer, and mask two-tone schemes only once the paint has fully cured. Apply the decals with the type designation over a gloss coat and use a decal softener. Wire cables and lines are best routed last, so that they are not damaged while the model is handled.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
