A resin replacement for the exhaust nozzles for the twin-engine carrier aircraft of the Super Hornet family, in the form designated as type 2. It is neither a model of the aircraft nor a part of one to be built on its own: it is a replacement part fitted in place of the nozzles from the box. In the large 1:32 scale the rear end of the aircraft is practically always at the viewer's eye level, so this is where an investment in detail pays back fastest.
The exhaust nozzle of a jet engine with an afterburner is made up of movable petals whose angle changes the cross section according to the engine setting. On the Super Hornet family two different forms of nozzle occur in service and modelers distinguish them as type 1 and type 2. Which of them a particular machine had is recognized from a photograph, not from the type designation of the aircraft, so it is worth verifying the real thing before you start building the rear end.
Most of the work on a nozzle goes into painting, not gluing. The key is that the inner and the outer surface look different: inside, heat-tinted tones prevail, while on the outer petals there is weathered dark metal with hints of blue and brown. Spray the inside first, mask it and only then do the outside. Before painting, wash the mold release off the part and apply primer; metallic paints are merciless to an imperfect base and show every scratch. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, and the joint with the fuselage can be evened out with fine filler.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The set is cut for one specific kit, which the name states; please check the match with the model you are building before you buy. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
