Yamaha YZF-R1 in 1:12 scale: a plastic kit of the modern Japanese road supersport from Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Japanese road supersport Yamaha YZF-R1 in 1:12 scale from the Tamiya motorcycle line. The model faithfully captures the compact shape of the fairing, the fuel tank and the layout of the frame. Vinyl tubing stands in for the wiring and hoses, and some of the parts (the frame and the swingarm) have a bright plated finish. A decal sheet for a period version is included.
The Yamaha YZF-R1 is one of the iconic liter-class supersports. It is powered by a liquid-cooled inline four of close to 998 cc, held in a light aluminum frame. The real machine made its name with a sharp design, a short wheelbase and an emphasis on low weight and quick turning. It is intended above all for sport riding and the track.
With motorcycles it pays to work in subassemblies: first finish and paint the engine and the frame, and only then fit the fairing. Lay a rich gloss finish on the main surfaces (ideally with an airbrush) and let it cure fully before the decals, because a smooth gloss is the key to a faithful sport finish. Glue the chrome and plated parts carefully with cyanoacrylate so that the surface does not go dull. The wheels, brake discs and fine details are brought out by dark washes and careful drybrushing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
