This is not a model of an aircraft, but a cast resin accessory in 1:144 scale for builders of models of airliners. The subject of the set is the LEAP-1B engine nacelle, that is the powerplant of the Boeing 737 MAX. According to the name it is the form with a stand, so the casting can also be displayed on its own as a showpiece of the engine, not only built into a model of the aircraft. A resin casting carries finer and sharper detail than an injection mold can manage in such a small scale — above all on the leading ring of the intake, on the dividing joints of the nacelle and on the exhaust section.
The LEAP-1B was developed by CFM International, the joint venture of the American General Electric and the French Safran. It is the exclusive powerplant of the Boeing 737 MAX, where it replaced the older CFM56-7B generation. Compared with the LEAP-1A version intended for the Airbus it has a smaller fan diameter — the low-set wing and the small ground clearance of the landing gear of the 737 do not allow a larger nacelle. A conspicuous feature is the serrated trailing edge of the nacelle, the so-called chevrons, which dampen noise. It is precisely by the shape of the intake and by the chevrons that the LEAP generation is told at first glance from the smooth CFM56 nacelles with a flat underside of the intake.
Wash the resin in lukewarm water with dish soap before gluing — residue of the mold release agent otherwise prevents paint from holding. Do not break the casting remnants and pour blocks, but cut them away with a saw or nippers and level the surface with a file. It is glued with super glue; ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on resin. It sands faster and more softly than plastic, so proceed carefully and preferably wet, as the dust from resin must not be inhaled. Give it a thin primer before painting; without a base coat resin takes paint unevenly.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
