A kit in 1:144 scale capturing the EC-130V, that is the conversion of the four-engine turboprop Hercules into a machine of airborne radar reconnaissance. The most conspicuous element of the real subject is the large rotating antenna housing carried above the fuselage on a pair of struts, which turns an established transport aircraft into an entirely different silhouette. In 1:144 scale the Hercules comes out at a reasonable size for a display case while still keeping the legibility of detail.
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a tactical transport aircraft with a high-mounted wing, a cargo ramp and four turboprop engines, which became one of the most widespread designs in its category. The EC-130V version arose from the modification of the machine for the tasks of early warning and patrolling over the sea: besides the radar in the rotating housing it differs from the standard Hercules in the equipment of the interior and in additional antennas. It was a special conversion, so its color schemes and markings differ from those of ordinary transport machines.
Before gluing, check the fit of the parts dry; in the small scales every inaccuracy shows on the shape of the fuselage. Glue the clear parts with a cement intended for clear plastic or with white PVA glue, so that the surface is not clouded. The radar housing above the fuselage is visible from every side, so set its struts at a right angle and fill and sand the joints carefully. Assemble the propellers only after painting and fit them at the end. First spray the model with a base color to even the surface out, then apply the main shades. Apply the decals onto a gloss clear coat and finally seal everything with a matte or semi-gloss clear coat. Bring out the panel lines only discreetly; in this scale a heavy wash looks overdone.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
