This civilian figure from MAiM, named Skinhead with Cap, captures a man with a shaved head and a cap sitting and drinking beer. It is exactly such everyday, entirely unremarkable snapshots that give modern dioramas their conviction: the scene does not look staged but like a second taken out of an ordinary day.
The seated pose asks for somewhere suitable to sit: a bench, a curb, the steps in front of a house, a pallet by a garage or the bed of a pick-up. The figure works as a point of calm that balances the more dynamic parts of a scene, and it goes naturally with the other civilian figures and urban props from MAiM in 1:16 scale.
Clean the casting up, wash it and give it a primer. Civilian clothing takes stronger colors than uniforms do: jeans, a hoodie or a T-shirt all allow you to work with contrast. Shade the skin of the head and the face gently with oil paints, and the cap and the bottle make rewarding small accents. A matte clear coat at the end, and gloss only on the glass of the bottle.
