A resin StuG III drive sprocket in the early form, 1:16 scale — a replacement for the plastic running gear part in a large-scale kit. This is not a model of the vehicle but a separate accessory.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is a resin casting that replaces the plastic drive sprocket in a finished model. It is not a kit of the vehicle and not a set of tracks — it is a single, but very exposed, part of the running gear. The 1:16 scale means the sprocket is several centimeters across in the hand and is looked at by everyone who walks around the model.
The StuG III is built on the chassis of the Panzer III, and that has front drive. The drive sprocket therefore sits at the front of the hull, right next to the final drive, and it is the most heavily loaded and best visible element of the whole running gear: the teeth engage the track links, the rim is worn to a shine and the hub tends to be smeared. The early form differs from later ones in the shape of the rim and the hub, so the replacement makes sense only if you are building the matching early version of the vehicle. That is exactly why the variant in the name matters — a late sprocket does not belong on an early machine.
First wash the casting in warm water with detergent to get the remains of the mold release agent off the surface — otherwise the paint will not hold. Do not snap the casting block off: cut it with a fine saw a little way from the part and sand the remainder flat, so that the sprocket seats square on the shaft. Resin is not glued with polystyrene cement; cyanoacrylate glue is used, with an accelerator on a larger area, or two-component epoxy resin. When sanding, work wet and with respiratory protection; resin dust is not to be breathed in.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
