The M198 is an American towed howitzer of 155 millimeters caliber, which with American units replaced older artillery of the same caliber and served with the ground forces and with the Marine Corps. It is moved into a firing position hitched behind a truck, and once there it is spread out onto the opened arms of its carriage and braced on its firing platform. The range with ordinary ammunition exceeds twenty kilometers. A characteristic feature is the long barrel with a muzzle brake, which is turned to the rear over the carriage for transport.
This is a kit in the unusually large scale of 1:16, in which the detail of the carriage, the sights and the mechanisms of the barrel all stand out. The model is meant to be assembled and finished; the extent of the parts and the markings offered are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
First rid the parts of surplus material and traces of production, sand the seating faces and assemble the whole dry before you reach for the glue. With artillery it pays to watch the symmetry of the two carriage arms and to build the whole on a flat surface, so that the model stands firmly on all its bearing points. Leave moving joints free until the painting is over and glue them only at the very end. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, cover it with a base coat and only then spray the shade for the scheme you have chosen.
The large scale will be appreciated by modelers who enjoy working up the surface and adding details of their own, and by collectors of present-day artillery. Paints, thinner, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
