A plastic kit of the German light airborne armored vehicle Wiesel MK 20 in the large 1:16 scale from Takom. The box contains gray plastic sprues, a clear sprue for the lights and vision blocks, two large one-piece moldings for the hull tub and the superstructure, a photo-etched fret and short metal tubes. The hatches can be built open or closed, and the suspension, the road wheels and the tracks are all workable. Decals for four options and a figure are enclosed.
The Wiesel is a small air-transportable tracked armored vehicle developed for the German army from the middle of the 1970s, when a requirement arose for light armored vehicles for airborne infantry. The MK 20 version carries a single-seat turret with the 20 mm dual-feed Rheinmetall Mk 20 cannon. Made of light steel armor, the vehicle weighs around 2.75 tons, withstands small arms fire and is powered by a turbocharged Audi diesel engine of around 86 horsepower. Thanks to its small dimensions it can be carried by helicopter as well as by transport aircraft.
With armored vehicles it pays to finish and paint the running gear and the interior before the hull tub is closed. Glue the plastic with thin cement and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer and the base shade with an airbrush; for Bundeswehr camouflage schemes, transitions of NATO green, brown and black work well. Create the weathering with washes in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud on the tracks and underneath. The large 1:16 scale lets the detail of the cannon and of the workable running gear stand out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
