1:20 Robonoid Captain Dice Ver. is a plastic kit of a robot figure from the Robonoid range of Aoshima of Japan, in 1:20 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of a stylized robot figure from the Robonoid model range of the Japanese maker Aoshima. The model is built from injection-molded plastic parts and is supplied unassembled; this release is listed as the Captain Dice version, which differs from the other items of the range in its form and accessories. The exact contents of the package are given on the box.
The Robonoid is a robot figure with a markedly stylized, stocky build — short limbs, a massive body and a simple head with one eye. The range relates to the world of a classic Japanese animated series of the late 1970s, in which machines of this kind appear; the name in the title refers to one of the characters of that story. The individual items of the range come from the same basic figure and differ in color form, accessories and accompanying parts, so they can be collected side by side. The 1:20 scale is usual for kits of this kind and matches the other models of the same range.
Before gluing and painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with a little detergent — there tends to be a trace of mold release agent on them from the molds, on which paint holds badly. Cut the sprue gates off with nippers at a distance and clean the remainder up with a knife, so that no plastic is torn out on a visible surface. On the large smooth areas of the body a primer pays off: it reveals irregularities that would stand out once the covering color was sprayed on. Apply the paint in thin coats, because the figure has little relief and a heavy coat would wipe out the fine detail. At the end, a discreet wash into the engraved lines and a gentle dry-brush emphasis of the edges will help, so that the robot does not read as a flat molding.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
