A detail set in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts, focused on air suspension. It is an accessory to a car model, not a kit of a vehicle, and it reaches into two places on a model at once: into the suspension of the wheels and into the space where the hardware of the system is stowed.
Air suspension is the basis of the style where a car stands practically on the ground and rises to driving height once it is started. On a model that expression cannot be faithfully pretended by merely shortening the springs, because what is missing is precisely the visible components that give the system away: the bellows at the axle and the hardware stowed in the trunk. The set gives a model the reason why it sits so low.
The set divides into two worlds of color and it pays to separate them right at the start. The bellows are rubber, so a rich matte black with no gloss belongs to them, ideally with a faint dusty cast around the base. The brackets, the compressor and the pressure tank, the other way round, are metal and glossy, and an aluminum or polished steel metallic paint over a smooth base suits them. Do not mix the two degrees of gloss into one coat, as it is exactly that difference which makes the scene legible. The order of the work is crucial: dry-fit first to see how high the car will stand once it is installed, because the stance of the body over the wheels cannot be put right after gluing. Paint the chassis before you start gluing and mask the seating surfaces while spraying, so that the glue holds on a bare surface. Connect the hardware in the trunk to the bellows with thin tubing even if only part of it is visible, because it is the run of the lines that tells an installed system from a group of parts laid in on their own.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
