Yamamoto Model Parts is a Polish brand focused on accessories for car kits, and this item belongs to its line of wheels. The package holds no model of a vehicle; these are replacement rims, installed in a model that is already being built.
A production rim out of a kit tends to be a compromise. The mold has to be able to release the part, so the spoke face has thicker spokes, rounded edges and shallow recesses; with larger diameters the depth of the lip is lost as well. A replacement rim is made by a different technology, so it can afford crisp edges and a legible pattern. On a model that cannot be missed, as the wheel takes up a large part of the silhouette of the car and decides whether the model comes across as an accurate reduction or as a toy. The eighteen-inch version also lowers and tightens the look of the car, which is the usual intention with tuning conversions.
Take the original wheels off the model and dry-fit the seating first; with larger diameters, watch the track and the clearance in the wheel arch. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and spray them with a primer, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Spray the rims for an even look, as a brushed coat leaves marks on a flat spoke face. The lip is often set apart in a polished metal shade. At the end, put a discreet dark wash into the recesses so that the pattern does not disappear. Glue the wheels on only once the chassis is painted.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The tires, the car model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
