A set of pre-cut painting masks for a model of the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat carrier fighter in 1:24 scale. The masks cover the areas that are to stay unpainted during spraying. In a large scale this work is rewarding: the glazing frames are long, every inaccuracy shows on a finished model, and cutting strips of tape freehand would mean hours of extra work. What exactly the set covers is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War, deployed mainly in the Pacific. The F6F-5 version is a late production form.
First wash and degrease the surface, otherwise the mask will not hold. Lift it off the backing with a sharp point, lay it in place and press down the edge that will be sprayed across with a toothpick or the blunt side of the tweezers. Only then spray, and in several thin coats; a heavy coat will leave a step at the edge. Remove the masks slowly and at a sharp angle, pulling backwards, while the finish is not yet fully cured. On glazing it pays to spray the interior color of the cockpit first and only then the outer shade, so that the frame looks right from both sides.
The model of the aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
