A finished collector's model from the range of the Japanese firm Tamiya. Unlike a kit it is neither assembled nor painted; you get it put together and with its surface finish done. The aim of such a model is a display case, not a modeling bench: the value lies in the accuracy of shape, the quality of the paint and the cleanliness of the assembly, which an ordinary builder would reach only with great effort.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was a sports car produced in the second half of the 1950s. Its most striking feature is the doors that open upward, forced by the design of a spaceframe tubular chassis with high side members. Under the hood an inline six-cylinder engine of approximately three liters worked, which was among the first series automobile engines with direct fuel injection. The car is today considered one of the most significant sports cars of its era.
Finished models differ from kits in their care as well. The surface finish is final, so anything that gets onto it is removed with difficulty. Take the model in your hand by the chassis or by non-visible surfaces, so that fingerprints are not left on the paint. Sweep the dust off with a soft brush or a blower, not with a cloth, which leaves fine scratches on the paint. Do not use alcohol-based or other solvent preparations for cleaning, because they damage the paint as well as the printed markings. Store the model away from direct sunlight, which changes the shade of the colors over time.
The model is supplied finished, assembled and painted. It is not a kit and is not intended for modeling assembly or for further modification.
