This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from Japan's Tamiya captures the sharper version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren road supercar, the 722 Edition. The model faithfully carries over the shape of the body with its long nose and short tail. The doors open on metal pins, and so does the hood, under which sits a finely rendered supercharged V8. Metallic transfers for the brand emblems are included. The plastic is pre-colored, but even so we recommend painting the model for the best result.
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition was introduced in 2006 and its designation refers to the starting number 722 of the winning car of the 1955 Mille Miglia. Compared with the standard version it was given a reworked supercharged 5.5-liter V8 with more power, a stiffer suspension, a slightly lower ride height and ceramic front brake discs. It is the peak of the line that Mercedes-Benz built together with McLaren.
Bond the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Even though the body is pre-colored, a better result comes from a primer, the color itself in thin coats, a clear coat and polishing to a high gloss. Assemble the metal door pins carefully, so that the doors open smoothly and without play. Apply the metallic emblem transfers onto a smooth, clean surface. Fit the glazing and the headlights at the end and bond them with glue for clear parts, which leaves no fogging.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
