About product

Mitsubishi Colt Galant GTO-MII, the year 1970, 1:24 scale

An unassembled injection-molded plastic kit of a car in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The boxing is tied to a particular version and year: the MII form from 1970, that is from the very start of production. The designation of the engine level is the distinguishing detail here, because the manufacturer releases the individual versions of this series as separate boxes.

The real subject

The Colt Galant GTO was introduced in 1970 as a sportingly tuned two-door coupe with the engine at the front and rear-wheel drive. Characteristic of it is the rear end with its raised edge, nicknamed the duck tail, and the long hood in the spirit of the American school of the time. The range was graded by engine: the MI was the base, the MII the middle level and the MR the top of the range with a more powerful valvetrain. The car counts as one of the important Japanese sports models of its day and is a sought-after classic now.

Building and painting tips

A coupe has large continuous areas on which every mistake shows. Wash the body, sand the seams and apply a primer. Spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats and let the finish cure thoroughly before you start polishing. The chrome strips, frames and bumpers are very much on view on a car of this period: do not glue them with ordinary cement for plastic and do not touch them with bare fingers. Glue the glazing with a glue for clear plastic. Finish the interior and the dashboard before closing the body up, and bring out the panel grooves with a fine paneliner.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese cars of the 1970s in 1:24 scale
  • Anyone interested in the individual engine levels of one series
  • Modelers who enjoy working on the finish and on chrome details
  • Builders of classic coupes for a cabinet

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

They are different levels of the range. The MII was the middle engine level, the MR the top of the series with a more powerful valvetrain. The manufacturer releases them as separate boxings.

Whether an engine is included in the package is stated on the box and in the manufacturer's instructions.

Leave them in their original surface finish, glue them with cyanoacrylate glue or with a glue for clear plastic and do not touch them with bare fingers. Ordinary cement for plastic would damage the chrome.
