This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese modeling brand Beemax captures the racing Group A Volvo 240 Turbo in the winning specification from the Guia Race in Macau. The parts are molded in white, black, clear and chrome-plated form, and the model is complemented by soft racing slick tires and an extensive decal sheet. The sheet allows the car to be built in two period liveries, from the endurance race on the Fuji circuit and from the winning drive in Macau.

The real subject

In the middle of the 1980s the Volvo 240 Turbo was an unexpectedly successful car of the works and customer era of Group A. The boxy sedan body concealed a turbocharged four-cylinder engine which turned a relatively heavy car into a winner of touring races all over the world. The Guia Race in Macau, one of the most demanding street circuits, ranks among the legendary events to this day, and it was precisely here that the Volvo proved that the flying brick could beat even lighter and more modern rivals.

Building and painting tips

The body of the boxy sedan is a rewarding surface for good paintwork: proceed through a primer and a smoothly sanded base, and only then apply the color and a gloss clear coat. The extensive sponsor decals settle better on a gloss surface; use a softener so that they lie down even on the edges. Glue the clear glazing parts last of all and protect them from fogging by super glue. Remove the chrome from the chrome-plated parts at the joint before gluing.
