An injection-molded plastic kit of a Japanese sports coupe in 1:24 scale from the manufacturer Aoshima. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the number of parts, the contents of the package and the extent of the decals are given on the box and in the instructions. The long name copies exactly the way the individual versions were designated in Japan: the body type, the capacity, the way the engine is charged and the trim level.
The Skyline of the generation designated R30 was built in the first half of the 1980s and its sports versions made it one of the iconic names of the Japanese home market. The abbreviation HT means a hardtop coupe body, and the number 2000 the engine capacity in cubic centimeters rounded to two liters. The top RS version received an inline four with four valves per cylinder, later supplemented with a turbocharger and finally with an intercooler for the charge air, which is exactly what the word Intercooler in the name refers to. RS-X was the highest trim level. The later form received a reworked nose with an all-black front without a grille, thanks to which the car still carries among collectors a nickname referring to an iron mask. For a model that means a very characteristic and easily recognizable front end.
The most striking feature is the black front end. If the body is in a light shade, mask the front part and spray it separately; the transition has to be crisp. A semi-matte black suits it, as a purely glossy black looks too plasticky on the front. The body has flat surfaces and sharp edges, so every unevenness shows on it; sand the seams wet, therefore, and apply the finish in thin coats. Sports versions tend to have extra decals with lettering and stripes; apply those onto gloss varnish and seal them at the end. Tinted glazing can be imitated by a fine spray of smoke clear color on the inside of the part, never on the outside, where it would be scratched. Flatten the tires down and suggest the sidewall lettering with a fine brush. Build and paint the interior before closing the body up.
