About product

Renault 4 GTL 1:24 - an Ebbro plastic kit

A kit of the legendary French small car Renault 4 in the GTL version, in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Ebbro. It is a classic injection-molded kit in polystyrene, which is attached with modeling cement and painted with ordinary modeling paints. Ebbro has long devoted itself to European civilian and utility vehicles. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and the number of color schemes are given on the packaging.

The real subject

The Renault 4 is among the most significant European cars of the second half of the twentieth century. It was built from 1961 for more than three decades and became one of the first truly mass-produced cars with a fifth door and a flat load floor. Technically it had front-wheel drive, the engine mounted longitudinally behind the gearbox, torsion bar suspension and a gear lever on a rod passing through the dashboard. The GTL version came at the end of the 1970s as a more economical release with a 1108 cc engine, plastic side trim and a better equipped interior. The Renault 4 served as a family car, a tradesman's van and a public service vehicle, and in many countries it became an everyday part of the streets.

Building and painting tips

First rid the body of flash and sand the traces of the parting line down, because on the simply shaped body of the Renault 4 every unevenness shows. Use thin cement for plastic applied into the seam by capillary action, not thick liquid plastic, which runs out onto visible surfaces. Apply primer before the paint; it evens the base out and reveals any remaining scratches. Spray the paint with an airbrush in thin layers; a semi-flat to satin look suits period shades. Build and paint the interior and the chassis before you close the body up. Glue the glazing in at the very end with glue for clear parts, which does not fog the plastic.

Who the model is for

  • builders of civilian and European cars in 1:24
  • modelers who like utility vehicles and everyday cars
  • fans of French automotive classics

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a kit. The parts are taken off the sprues, attached with modeling cement and painted separately.

The number of parts is given on the packaging. The extent matches an ordinary car kit in 1:24.

Thin cement for polystyrene applied into the seam and modeling paints, ideally over primer and sprayed with an airbrush.

A simply shaped body helps the build, but every unevenness shows. We recommend at least basic experience of sanding and clear coating.
