About product

Toyota TA22 Celica 1600 GT 1972 in 1:24 scale from Aoshima

A plastic kit of the Japanese coupe Toyota Celica in the top 1600 GT version with the type designation TA22, in the form of 1972. The model is in 1:24 scale and comes from the production of the Japanese company Aoshima, which has long specialized in car kits.

The real subject

The first-generation Celica was presented in 1970 as a sporting coupe for young customers. The top of the range was the 1600 GT version with an inline four of 1.6 liters and two camshafts in the head, completed by a five-speed manual gearbox. The body with its short nose, long hood and strongly pressed flanks gave the car the look thanks to which the TA22 is still a sought-after youngtimer and a favorite basis for period modifications.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts from the sprues with cutters and level the remains of the gates with a file, so that no white burr is left. On injection-molded plastic use thin modeling cement, which wicks into the joint and does not run onto a visible surface. Spray the body over a filler primer, apply the paint in thin coats and tune the gloss with clear varnish and polishing. Fit the chrome and clear parts last and glue them with glue for clear parts, so that they do not go dull. Apply the decals onto a gloss surface and finally even the surface out with varnish according to the degree of gloss you want.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese cars of the 1970s
  • Modelers who build youngtimers and period modifications
  • Builders with basic experience of car kits
  • Those interested in 1:24 scale, which matches most other car models

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a classic plastic kit. The parts are separated from the sprues, glued with modeling cement and the model is then painted.

They are not. Glue, paints, filler primer and varnishes are supplied separately with plastic kits, unless expressly stated otherwise.

A scale of 1:24 means the model is twenty-four times smaller than the real car. On a compact coupe that corresponds to a length of roughly twenty centimeters.

Car kits call for careful fitting of the body and a clean finish, so at least basic experience is advisable. The construction itself is however among the ordinary kits of this scale.
