Reskit 1:32 set of four resin retarded aircraft bombs of the 1000-pound class with the Mk.3 tail unit. It is underwing armament as an accessory to a kit, not a model of an aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of four resin aircraft bombs of the 1000-pound class, that is roughly 454 kilograms, in the retarded configuration with the tail unit designated Mk.3, in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft, but add-on armament for the pylons of an already built model. The retarded tail unit is at the same time the feature that sets the set apart from the free-fall variant the maker offers separately under the neighboring number. A resin casting pays off on bombs: it has no parting plane along the whole length of the body and the edges of the stabilizing surfaces stay thin, which a two-part plastic molding cannot manage.
A retarded bomb differs from a free-fall one in the device in its tail unit that slows the fall once it is released. The carrier can therefore drop its load from low level and get out of the area of the explosion before the bomb lands. That is exactly why retarded configurations were used in low-level attacks, where free fall is ruled out. Visually the difference shows mainly at the rear of the bomb — it is longer and shaped differently than a fixed stabilizing tail unit — and it is precisely this detail that makes the difference between a faithful and an inaccurate underwing configuration on a model.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent because of release agent residue from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a fine cutter and true the cuts up with fine abrasive paper, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate and a primer is essential before painting. Spray the body of the bomb with an airbrush in one shade, leave the color stripes and lettering to decals or a fine brush, and use a fine wash only in the engraved lines and around the lugs. Hang the bombs on the model only after the lower surface has been painted; on heavier castings strengthen the joint with a short wire pin.
This is an add-on set of underwing armament, not a model of an aircraft. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
