A set of seat belts in textile for models of the German Albatros D.V and D.Va fighter in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit nor a photo-etched interior set: it is a standalone accessory that will replace flat belts cast in one piece with the seat or thin photo-etched metal. Textile belts can be shaped, they sag credibly over the edge of the seat, and in the open cockpit of a large scale that is a detail visible at first glance.
The Albatros D.V and its strengthened D.Va version were German fighters of the closing stage of the First World War. Their characteristic feature was an aerodynamically clean fuselage of oval cross-section with a plywood semi-monocoque structure and a liquid-cooled inline engine. The cockpit was open and fairly shallow, so the seat and the pilot's restraints are clearly visible on a finished model. In 1:32 scale small things such as the stitching and the buckles, which would be lost in a smaller scale, come into play as well.
Take the belts out carefully, as the textile can fray at the edges. Before you start gluing, let the individual parts lie loose for a while and plan where the belt will run: a realistic belt is asymmetrical and naturally slumped, not a taut straight strip. Glue with cyanoacrylate in really small doses applied with the tip of a toothpick; an excess will run into the structure of the textile and make a shiny patch. Hold the bends with tweezers until the glue goes tacky. If you assemble the belts off the model, count on the finished assembly being only slightly shapeable afterwards. Tie the shade in gently as needed with weakly thinned paint or a wash, but do not spray them heavily: the printing and the texture of the fabric are the main value of the set.
