The Avro Lancaster is a British four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War. Its recognition features are the long uninterrupted bomb bay, which took even the largest loads, the pair of end vertical tail surfaces and the defensive gun turrets. In 1:32 scale the model comes out large and the surfaces of the fuselage and wings stay empty, so it is exactly the markings that decide the impression.
The sheet adds to the model the lettering, numbers and insignia that cannot be managed with the needed sharpness by spraying or painting by hand. It is worked up for the machine carrying the fuselage letters SE-N; which elements the sheet contains and exactly where they belong is shown by the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer. The printing holds sharp edges even on the tiny lettering, where a brush would bleed at this scale.
With sheets of this kind the wet procedure is usual: the element is cut out, laid in lukewarm water for a few seconds and, once released, slid off the paper into place. Before you soak the sheet, however, check in the instructions whether it is a self-adhesive version, because a soaked self-adhesive film is ruined beyond repair. The surface is prepared the same way in both cases: a decal holds only on a smooth gloss surface, air stays under a matte finish and the edge shows after drying as a light border. Give the painted model a coat of gloss clear first, therefore, and let it cure. Bring the element into position with a soft brush, blot off the excess water and let the area dry out. Only then even the surface out with a final clear coat.
