A decal sheet from the British manufacturer Kits-World in 1:32 scale, devoted to a particular Lancaster with the serial number LM453 and the code marking WS-E. It is not a kit but a standalone set of markings. Besides the serial number and the code letters, the machine also carried a period painting with an inscription on the fuselage. The exact extent of the sheet is shown by the illustration on the packaging, and we recommend going through it before buying.
The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy bomber with Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines. Characteristic were the twin vertical tail surface, the long undivided bomb bay and the gun positions in the nose, on the back and in the tail. The pair of code letters on the fuselage denoted the squadron, and the separate letter behind the national insignia the particular aircraft within the unit. A combination of serial number and code, such as LM453 WS-E, therefore identifies one machine unambiguously.
Decals are always glossier than the surrounding matte finish, and without a final layer you will spot them even years later. When all the decals have dried and the wash and the line highlighting are finished, spray the whole model with an even thin layer of matte clear coat; it evens out the sheen and the decals merge optically with the finish. Apply the clear coat in several weak layers from a distance, as a thick wet layer could dissolve the artwork or create stains. Cover the glazed areas and any gloss details beforehand.
