A set of masks for the cockpit and the national insignia of the late Messerschmitt, extended by a pair of metal barrels for the fuselage machine guns of 13 mm caliber.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fuselage armament of this fighter went through a clearly legible development during the war. The original pair of MG 17 machine guns of 7.92 mm caliber fitted into the nose without trouble and the skin above it stayed smooth. As soon as the designers reached for the MG 131 weapon of 13 mm caliber, however, the breech and the feed mechanism no longer fitted under the metal, and the nose was given two prominent bulges. Modelers call them bulges and on the late versions they are the quickest recognition sign.
The set corresponds to exactly this late form. Two turned metal barrels replace the plastic stubs, which look blunt in every kit, because an injection mold cannot make a real bore in them. The difference is noticeable at once: the metal part has a sharp rim at the muzzle and a dark cavity, whereas plastic can only be painted and a hollow is drilled into it by hand, which on a thin stub almost always ends in a crack.
The package holds masks for the cockpit canopy, cut separately for the view from outside and separately for the inner frames, plus two masks for the national insignia. The marking is therefore sprayed, not applied. On the late machines the cross on the fuselage was often simplified to a mere outline, which is easier to manage with a mask than with a decal over an uneven surface. Apply the masks to thoroughly dried paint, otherwise there is a risk of tearing the paint off while peeling them away.
