A sheet of decals from the Czech manufacturer HGW with the grain of natural light wood in a neutral tone, intended for models in 1:32 scale. The form is transparent, that is without a covering white underprint: the print is translucent and the resulting color of the wood comes about through the combination of the grain and the base that you apply to the model beforehand. The neutral light tone is the most universal of the whole range and suits everywhere you do not want pronouncedly warm or dark wood.
In large scales the texture of wood is one of the most closely watched details. Plywood fuselage skins, propellers, floors and cockpit side panels, instrument panels and also the deck planking of ship models all have a legible grain that painting by hand only reproduces evenly over a whole surface with difficulty. A printed sheet gives a uniform result and cuts the work down substantially.
Spray the base with a smooth covering paint in a light tone and varnish it over with a gloss varnish, so that the decal adheres well and does not silver. Cut the segments with the same direction of grain as the real part had, and build large areas up from several pieces with the joint hidden in a seam. Once soaked, let the decal release, adjust the position, press the water out and let it dry thoroughly. On rounded shapes a softener helps. At the end bring the surface together with a semi-matte varnish; a fine dark wash brings the gaps out and gives the wood depth.
This is an accessory for surface finishing, not a model. Paints, varnishes and softeners are not included in the package.
