A resin replacement wheel set for a kit of the North American T-28 Trojan trainer in 1:32 scale, this time in the form for machines operating from land bases. It is not a model of the aircraft, but a detail accessory. The resin casting has a crisp tread pattern and a legible hub shape and does without the parting plane you have to sand away on plastic wheels — and it is exactly that which usually damages the tread pattern. The maker divides Trojan wheels by groups of versions and by the way they were used; this item is the land-based form for the T-28A and T-28B versions.
The North American T-28 Trojan is a two-seat trainer with a piston radial engine and a nosewheel undercarriage, introduced at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s for basic as well as advanced training. The T-28A is the original version for the air force, the T-28B is the naval trainer version with a more powerful engine. Machines operating from hard land runways differ from carrier ones among other things in the service wear on the tires, which is one of the things that can be suggested on a model by painting. The undercarriage stays partly visible even when retracted, so extra work on the wheels tells.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent from the mold is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a fine cutter; do not snap them. True the cuts up with fine abrasive paper, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting. Set the tire off from the hub with the shade — dark gray with a hint of brown looks truer than pure black. On machines from land bases it is worth adding a fine dust pigment to the lower part of the tire, so that the wheel does not look fresh from the factory.
This is an add-on set, not a model of the aircraft. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
