A set of two resin ODAB-500 PM aircraft bombs in 1:32 scale. These are munitions of Soviet design from the thermobaric category, with a characteristic cylindrical body, a rounded nose and a ring of stabilizing surfaces at the rear. The set is intended to be fitted to the mountings of a combat airplane or helicopter kit; its content is the munition itself, not the carrier structure.

What the set deals with on a model

A cylindrical body is a thankless shape for injection-molded plastic. Two halves have to be glued together exactly, and even a small deviation shows on a smooth surface as a visible step, which then has to be filled and sanded, in the process losing the engraved detail of the suspension bands. A resin casting is monolithic, so the body is round from the start and the surface detail stays untouched. The two pieces in the package match a symmetrical load.

Fitting and painting tips

Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the face wet, ideally on sanding paper laid on glass, so that it stays flat. Because of the weight of the casting it is a good idea to reinforce the joint with the pylon with a wire pin. Lay down a primer before painting. Munitions of this type are usually finished in a uniform body shade with contrasting bands according to the markings; check the particular scheme in your references for the build, as none is given here. A thin wash in the seams between the sections is useful at the end.
