A sheet of markings for the Thunderbolt in two subtypes, D and M, in 1:32. Both aircraft carry the personal name Pengie and belonged to a Polish pilot who flew with the American 61st Fighter Squadron from Boxted in England.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M subtype came about at the close of the war as an answer to the German V-1 flying bombs and jet machines. It was given a more powerful engine and a new turbocharger, which made it the fastest production version of the whole type. Only around a hundred were built and almost all of them ended up with a single formation, which flew them from England in the spring of 1945. The set places such a machine side by side with its older predecessor in the D version.
Both aircraft belonged to Mike Gladych, a Polish fighter pilot who after the fall of his homeland made his way through France to Britain and finally fought alongside the Americans. He numbered his machines with the name Pengie in turn, so the sheet offers the fourth and the fifth aircraft of that line. The later of them already had bare metal and pronounced colored areas on the cowling and the rudder, of the kind the 56th Fighter Group used for quick recognition.
The M subtype differs from the D in the shape of the exhaust flaps, in the engine and in the intakes on the cowling, so it is good to choose a kit that offers these parts. The colored areas of the nose come out better sprayed than from a decal. The propeller of the late machines had wider blades, which shows when seen from the front, and it is worth comparing it with a period photograph before the cowling is glued on.
First even the surface out with a gloss layer, let the decal release in water on its own and slide it onto the wet area. Once it is straight, draw the water off and leave the area alone until the next day. The kit and the paints are not part of the package.
