About product

The Mustang that scored an Me 262 over Ruzyne

The sheet in 1:32 scale carries the markings of a single machine: the North American P-51D-20-NA with the serial number 44-72199, the code G4 and the letter A. It was flown by Captain Charles E. Weaver of the 362nd Fighter Squadron. That squadron belonged to the 357th Fighter Group, one of the most successful units of the Eighth Air Force in the fighting over Germany.

An unusually sparingly marked aircraft

The machine stayed entirely in bare metal. The recognition features of the group were a red and yellow striped propeller spinner and a checkerboard field on the nose, and the sheet contains both. Weaver's Mustang is marked sparingly, however: it lacks the broad black identification stripes that were commonly painted on the wings and horizontal tail surfaces of European machines. On the nose, by contrast, it carried a striking painting of a reclining girl, beside it a respectable victory tally, and on the fuselage black code letters. The markings close with the serial number on the vertical tail surface and on the rudder.

What the victory tally tells

Weaver opened his account on September 19, 1944 over the Zuider Zee. On November 17 he added a pair of Fw 190s south of Magdeburg and damaged a third, and two days before Christmas Eve he scored north of Donauwörth. In January 1945 he succeeded northwest of Berlin, in March near Gütersloh, and on April 18, 1945 he entered a jet Me 262 directly over the Ruzyne airfield.

The form of the delivery

This is a printed sheet intended for transfer in water. The aircraft kit and the paints are not part of it.

FAQ

Only one. The whole content of the sheet belongs to machine 44-72199 with the code G4 and the letter A, which goes against the usual habit of the brand, which normally puts a pair of subjects on a sheet.

Weaver's aircraft genuinely did not carry them, although with European Mustangs they were the standard. The sheet respects that deviation and does not contain the stripes.

No. You are buying the printed sheet alone. Obtain the kit in 1:32 scale, the paints and the clear coat separately.

Yes, the last victory of this pilot is dated April 18, 1945 and took place over the airfield at Prague Ruzyne.
