1:700 USS Bataan LHD-5 is a plastic kit of the American Wasp class amphibious assault ship in 1:700 scale from Hobby Boss.
Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of the fifth unit of the American Wasp class in 1:700 scale. Amphibious assault ships of this type are as large as smaller aircraft carriers, so even in a small scale the result is a long model with a full-length flight deck, an island superstructure and a busy hull side. Hobby Boss has treated a whole series of Wasp class units in the same way, so they can be built as a collection.
USS Bataan entered service in 1997 and carries the name of the fighting on the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines in 1942. She operates off the Atlantic coast of the United States and, besides amphibious tasks for the Marine Corps, she has repeatedly taken part in humanitarian and rescue operations. Her design combines a full-length flight deck for helicopters and VTOL aircraft with a floodable well deck from which landing craft put out.
The largest surface on the model is the flight deck, so prepare it carefully: level it, unify it with a base color and do the markings with masks or decals rather than freehand with a brush. It is a good idea to spray the hull before fitting the small superstructures and lifeboats. The model comes to life with light emphasis on the vertical joints and a slightly different shade for the deck. Leave the fine antennas and masts for last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
