This product is not a kit and not a complete photo-etched set. It is a single finished part, an instrument panel for the PT-17 Kaydet training biplane in 1:32. It is etched from thin sheet and the colors, the dials and the lettering included, are applied by the manufacturer during production. The modeler therefore sprays nothing and paints nothing; the panel is only separated from the fret and glued into the cockpit. A separate item is made for the PT-13 form.
The Stearman Kaydet was among the most widespread American basic trainers. It was a biplane with a fixed landing gear and two open cockpits, designed to stand up to a hard landing by an inexperienced pupil. The PT-17 form used a Continental radial engine, the PT-13 version a Lycoming. After the war hundreds of machines passed into civilian use, where they served for crop dusting and for air shows, which is why the type is popular among modelers of colorful civilian schemes as well.
Cut or thin the plastic panel from the kit so that the etched part sits at a natural depth. Separate the part from the fret with a cutter rather than nippers, which would bend the sheet. Level the edges with a fine file and protect the printed front face while doing so. Use cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount. Do not spray matte or gloss varnish over the whole printing; just put a spot of gloss onto the individual dials for the effect of a glass. Finish and paint the cockpit interior before you fit the panel.
This is an accessory, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
