This item is not a kit. It is an aftermarket accessory from the Greek brand GasPatch models: two separate Schwarzlose 07/12 machine guns in the version with a water cooling jacket, in 1:32 scale and cast in resin. A large scale reveals every inaccuracy, so on such a model the gun from the plastic kit tends to be the first thing a builder replaces. A resin casting offers crisp edges and the fine texture of the jacket, which an injection mold cannot deliver.
The Schwarzlose Model 07/12 is an Austro-Hungarian 8 mm heavy machine gun. It works on delayed blowback with a toggle-lever mechanism, a design simpler than the barrel recoil used by comparable guns. The barrel is fairly short and in this version a cylindrical water jacket surrounds it and carries the heat away during longer bursts. The gun is belt-fed. The description keeps to the technical frame of the design.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water: paint would not hold on any mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a new blade, never by twisting; resin is hard and brittle. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). In a large scale it pays to paint in layers: a thin primer, a dark metal shade, a careful dry brush on the edges of the jacket and on the riveting, and a dark wash in the gaps between the jacket and the body of the gun. Keep any wooden parts separated in color from the metal so the model does not look all of one piece.
This is a modeling accessory, not a complete kit. The parts are supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
