A resin figure from the Aerobonus line made by the Czech producer Aires. It represents a pilot of the US Air Force in present-day flying kit, that is in a flight suit with a g-suit, a harness, a helmet and an oxygen mask. The casting is supplied unpainted and before use it is assembled from several parts. In the large 1:32 scale the rendering of the straps, the buckles, the hoses and the folds of the fabric is clearly visible, so the figure works as an object in its own right beside a finished model.
The kit of the pilot of a modern combat aircraft is completely different from that of the Second World War. The foundation is a flight suit of fire-resistant material, over which a g-suit with inflatable bladders is pulled on; during high-g maneuvers it squeezes the lower part of the body and stops the blood draining from the head. With it go a survival vest with emergency equipment, a harness for connection to the ejection seat, a hard helmet with a visor and an oxygen mask. The whole outfit weighs several kilograms and, when walking across the ramp, it gives the pilot a characteristic, slightly awkward stance.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, level the surfaces with abrasive paper used wet and protect your airways when sanding resin. Try the arms and the head dry until the stance looks natural, then fill the seams. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Start the painting with a primer; modern flight suits have a matte, low-contrast shade, so work with fine glazes and apply the highlights sparingly, otherwise the result looks like a toy.
The figure is supplied unpainted and unassembled, and it is an accessory to a model. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
