A set of scaled-down sheet-metal boxes for .30 caliber machine gun ammunition, that is roughly 7.62 mm, in 1:35 scale. The boxes are done as empty ones, that is with the lid open or swung back and with no ammunition belt suggested inside; the manufacturer keeps the full version as a separate item. It is not a kit — these are accessories used to fill the cargo space of a vehicle, a load bed, the area around a gun or the scene of a diorama. The manufacturer is the Spanish company AMMO of Mig Jimenez.
A sheet-metal box for machine gun ammunition is a typical piece of kit that in reality lies about practically everywhere weapons are worked — on fenders, in the bed of a truck, by a mounting and dropped on the ground. An empty box with the lid swung back is more valuable to a diorama builder than a full one, because it tells a story: it suggests that firing has just taken place or that ammunition was being replenished. On a model it also breaks up monotonous surfaces and can be used to direct the eye.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off with a sharp knife or a fine saw. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with super glue, and a primer should be applied before painting. The boxes are painted separately from the model and fitted only at the end. It works well to give each box a slightly different shade and a different degree of wear — a uniform coat looks artificial. Bring out the edges and corners with abrasion, and put dust or mud matching the base on the bottom and the lower parts so that the accessory blends into its surroundings. Leave a deeper shadow inside an empty box.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
