This item is neither a kit nor a finished model, but a separate detail accessory. It is a precisely turned metal barrel of the 88 mm Pak 43/3 L/71 anti-tank gun, which replaces the plastic part of the base kit of the Jagdpanther tank destroyer in the Ausf. G1 version of early production in 1:35 scale. The metal barrel is perfectly straight, has a muzzle true to the axis and a sharply rendered bore, which are details that injected plastic with a mold parting line cannot reach without long filling and sanding. The manufacturer is the Polish firm Aber, which specializes in photo-etched and turned detail sets for modelers.
The Jagdpanther was a German tank destroyer built on the chassis of the medium tank Panther and committed from 1944. It combined good mobility, the steeply sloped frontal armor of the casemate and the exceptionally effective 88 mm Pak 43/3 gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers. It was this weapon that was among the most powerful anti-tank guns of the Second World War. Early vehicles of the G1 series differed from later machines in the form of the gun mantlet and in the construction of the barrel, which is why replacement barrels are offered in several variants and it is best to choose by the particular version being modeled.
Cut off the plastic barrel as close to the mantlet as possible and level the surface with a file, so that the metal part seats squarely. Glue the metal with cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part epoxy; plastic cement does not hold on it. Before painting, degrease the surface and use a good base coat for metals, or the paint will peel off during handling. The muzzle of the barrel and its root are worth picking out with a dark wash and a gentle dry brush, and a light hint of scorching and dust on the end section is typical as well.
