An add-on set of photo-etched parts for a model of the Sd.Kfz. 251/1 armored personnel carrier in the Ausf. D version, 1:35 scale. According to the name it covers the floor of the fighting compartment and is the sixth part of a range of sets for the same vehicle, that is, an extension that follows on from the other sets. The parts are photo-etched.
The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German half-track armored personnel carrier of the Second World War, which carried infantry behind the attacking tanks and served as the basis for a whole family of derived versions. The designation 251/1 belongs to the basic transport form. The Ausf. D version is the late, production-simplified one: it has straight hull sides without a break and a simply arranged rear, which tells it apart from the earlier forms at a glance.
The hull of the carrier is open at the top, so the fighting compartment can be seen even once the build is finished. The plastic floor from the kit tends to be a smooth plate without texture, whereas the thin photo-etched part carries a fine relief that cannot be molded in plastic at this scale.
Fit the floor right at the start of the build, while the hull is open and reachable from every side. Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a firm surface, make the bends with a bending tool or with flat-jawed tweezers and close them fully. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in minute drops. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a coat of primer, otherwise the layer will not hold on the smooth surface.
