A base surface for a small scene in 1:35 scale. The square format of 4.4 x 4.4 matches a small vignette that will take one figure, a piece of artillery equipment or an item of kit. The model then does not stand on a bare shelf but in a setting that gives it scale and a story, and yet it takes up no more room in a display case than the figure itself.
Try the layout dry before you reach for the glue. Cut any excess material at the edges off with a sharp blade a little way from the surface and sand the remainder level. To join a figure or an accessory to the base permanently use super glue and apply it drop by drop, so that it does not run into the surroundings. Clean and degrease the surface before painting.
Ground only looks convincing once it does not stay at a single shade. Apply a base tone, darken the recesses with a dark wash and go over the raised places with a dry brush in a lighter color. Static grass, fine gravel and a few dry twigs will liven a scene up more than another coat of paint. Unify the transition to the edge, so that the edge does not disturb the view. Apply the paint in thin coats and let each one dry, otherwise the small details of the surface will be filled in.
It will be appreciated by modelers who want to set a figure or a small accessory in a setting without taking on a large diorama. It will also serve for photographing finished figures and as a unifying surface for a collection in which figures stand side by side. Figures, models, paints, static grass and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
