An advertising sign for a Chinese restaurant from the MAiM brand in 1:35 scale. Besides historical subjects the MAiM brand concentrates on modern and post-apocalyptic themes, and a bold restaurant sign is exactly the kind of element typical of a contemporary urban street. In a diorama it creates a recognizable setting at once, a busy quarter with shops and businesses, or conversely its emptied, derelict version.
Fit the sign to a facade, above an entrance or on the corner of a building; it also works as an element on its own beside a road. It combines superbly with modern vehicles, civilian figures, car wrecks or zombie figures from the MAiM range, because from an ordinary urban scene to an apocalypse is just one step, decided by the weathering around it.
For a living street, leave the sign clean and glossier, with only fine dust along the bottom edge. For a post-apocalyptic scene add rust, chipping, faded colors and damage if you like, because a cracked or tilted sign tells of what has happened to the town. A matte clear coat will even the surface out with the rest of the building.
