Aber 1:35 – a turned 120 mm L1A2 barrel for the British Conqueror Mk.2 heavy tank replaces the plastic part with an accurate metal one.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal detail set, not a tank kit. It holds a turned barrel for the British 120 mm tank gun in its L1A2 form, together with small parts for the fitting. The metal barrel has a drilled muzzle and a surface free of mold seams, so there is no filling and no sanding of a lengthwise seam. It is made by the Polish company Aber, which has long concentrated on turned barrels and photo-etched detail for military models.
The Conqueror (FV214) was a British heavy tank of the 1950s, built as a counterweight to Soviet heavy vehicles. Its main strength was the massive 120 mm gun with separated ammunition, which reached well beyond what contemporary British medium tanks could do. The vehicle served mainly with British forces in West Germany, where its task was to destroy heavy targets at long range and cover the lighter Centurion tanks. High weight, costly operation and the quick arrival of new tanks led to its fairly early withdrawal in the 1960s. The Mark 2 version differed from the first batch in turret and equipment changes, among other things.
Degrease the barrel with alcohol and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy. A long, heavy metal barrel puts a load on its mounting in the turret – support it while gluing and let the glue cure properly. Apply a primer for metal surfaces before painting. On British Cold War vehicles a single dark green shade looks good, with only mild edge highlighting and fine dust on the lower surfaces.
This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
