The kit USAF Star Fighter F-104 & TF-104 from Freedom Model Kits is a pair of plastic models in a stylized, shortened form, that is with no scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a plastic kit from the stylized line known among modelers as egg planes. The fuselage is deliberately shortened, the cockpit enlarged and the proportions caricatured, so the model has no scale and does not aim at the exact dimensions of the real subject. The recognizable features of the Starfighter do remain, though: the slender pointed nose and the short straight wings. The package holds two models, the single-seat F-104 and the two-seat TF-104 trainer, complemented by clear parts and decals with US Air Force markings. The maker Freedom Model Kits comes from Taiwan.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter characterized by very small straight wings and a powerful turbojet. The design was built around rapid climb and high speed, which made it above all a day fighter and interceptor in the US Air Force. The two-seat TF-104 version served to train pilots and kept the combat capability of the basic variant.
The build is short and undemanding and it suits a relaxing project between two larger models. Glue with thin cement for plastic, which flows into the joints by capillary action, because any excess is harder to remove from small parts. Apply a primer before painting, because the metallic look of American Starfighters comes out only over a smooth surface, so sand the joints carefully. Overcoat the area with a gloss varnish before the decals and with a matte or satin one once dry, depending on the look you want. Mask the clear parts and glue them on only after painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
