Chains for Wire Wheels is a photo-etched metal set of anti-skid chains for wire wheels in 1:35 from Copper State Models. It is not a model but a detail accessory for building wheeled equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a detail set, not a kit of a vehicle. The package holds fine photo-etched metal parts representing anti-skid chains fitted to wire wheels. In 1:35 this is a feature that a plastic or resin casting of a wheel cannot imitate faithfully, because a chain has to be thin and see-through between the links. That is precisely what etched metal handles best.
The chains were fitted to wire wheels so that a vehicle would cope with muddy roads and soft ground. On a model they therefore fill two roles at once: they add technical detail and at the same time give the scene context, because in themselves they suggest muddy conditions. The set is meant for the wire wheels of wheeled equipment of the First World War period in 1:35.
Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and never break them out. Sand the remains of the tabs down with a fine file. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold. Bending is easiest with a photo-etch bender or at least with two blades, and for shaping around the rim work in small sections. It is glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate), or spot-soldered. Once painted, a dark wash and a fine lightening of the edges will help the chain look metallic.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
