About product

The 1:35 Challenger II wheel masking set (Trumpeter)

It is not a kit, but an accessory for painting. The templates follow the boundary between the rubber tire and the disk of a road wheel, so the boundary does not have to be drawn around with a brush. The set is cut for the model of the British main battle tank Challenger II from the manufacturer Trumpeter.

The real subject

The Challenger II is a British main battle tank introduced in the 1990s. It has a tracked chassis with road wheels fitted with a rubber tire, which are clearly visible on a model from the side, because only side skirts cover them.

What to do with glue residue on a part

A mask holds only on a smooth and clean surface, so anything left on a wheel after gluing and sanding works against you. Dried glue creates a thin bump, which lifts the mask exactly where the edge is to be sharp. Before masking, therefore, run a finger over the part and sand the places where you feel an unevenness with fine abrasive paper or an abrasive sponge. Then wipe the area with a cloth moistened with alcohol. Grease from the fingers has the same effect on adhesion as glue, only you do not see it, so touch cleaned wheels rather by the inner side. Mold release residue on freshly removed parts is also worth washing off with lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and letting them dry properly.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Challenger II from Trumpeter
  • Those who want a uniform boundary of the rubber on all the wheels
  • Builders painting with an airbrush
  • Anyone interested in modern armored hardware in 1:35 scale

The package holds only the masking templates. The kit, paints and thinners are not included in it. Before purchase verify that you are building exactly the kit mentioned.
