Chemical storage containers suit the bed of a truck, a workshop corner, a storage area, a pallet beside a gate, or simply the ground among the figures. This is the second set in the series, so it can be combined with the first to put together a more varied still life.
Plastic storage containers for chemicals belong to the entirely ordinary equipment of stores, workshops, service stations and military rear areas. They are usually of thick-walled plastic, tend to have pronounced molded ribbing, a wider filling neck with a screw closure and an area for a label marking the contents. It is precisely that combination of a smooth surface, sharp edges and a colored label that makes them a rewarding detail: in a drab scene they catch the eye with color and give away at once what the space is for.
Separate the parts carefully, clean up the mating faces and wash and degrease them before painting so that the paint will hold. A thin coat of primer, the base shade from an airbrush and the details finished with a brush prove their worth. Plastic containers look convincing in saturated, slightly satin shades, which are then knocked back with a flat varnish. Suggest the labels and lettering with a decal or a fine brush, and the wear with gentle dry-brushing on the edges and a light dusting of pigments at the base. Do not just line the containers up in a row; lay some down, lean others, or cover one partly with a tarpaulin, so that the scene looks alive.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
