About product

Aber 1:35 construction sections - angle irons (a photo-etched brass set)

This item is not a kit of a vehicle or of figures. It is an accessory for modelers and diorama builders: a photo-etched brass fret from which L-shaped sections, that is, angle irons, are taken out and bent. It serves as building material in 1:35 scale; out of the sections you build lattice structures, girders, bridge features, racks, masts, the fencing of workshops or ruined industrial halls. The manufacturer is the Polish firm Aber, which specializes in photo-etched and turned metal accessories.

What the sections are for

Plastic sections deform in small scales and their edges look soft. Photo-etched brass holds both a thin wall and a sharp edge, so a structure looks like real steel even after painting. The sections can be shortened, layered, given imitation rivets and combined with other photo-etched parts. The typical use is a battlefield scene in industrial surroundings, a railway station, a repair workshop or a damaged bridge, where the ratio of material thickness to 1:35 scale has to stay right.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface rather than by twisting, so that the section does not deform. Bend them in a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades. Join brass with cyanoacrylate glue; on larger structures soldering with tin is stronger. Degrease the photo-etched parts before painting and lay down a primer meant for metal, otherwise paint will not hold on smooth brass. Rust and flaking paint come out well with the hairspray technique, and pigments and oil washes at the end give dust and traces of damp.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who build structures from scratch
  • Enthusiasts of industrial and urban scenery
  • More advanced modelers with experience of photo-etched parts

The accessory is supplied as a photo-etched brass fret, unpainted. A base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a photo-etched brass fret with construction sections from which you build your own structures in a diorama. No standalone model comes out of it.

The set is designed for 1:35 scale, that is, for the most widespread scale of military vehicles and figures.

Most often with cyanoacrylate glue. On larger and load-bearing structures soldering with tin is more reliable.

Yes. Degrease the brass and lay down a primer meant for metal. Without an undercoat paint holds poorly on smooth brass and flakes off.
